Human trafficking is a growing problem that affects millions of people around the world with woman and children being the most vulnerable. Human trafficking is being seen as a modern form of slavery where a lot of human rights are being violated and people are being exploited and used for sexual purposes.
For me it always looked like human trafficking was something that wouldn’t happen in The Netherlands. But during the lectures about this topic it became very clear that unfortunately this is not the case. Human trafficking is also a problem in The Netherlands with victims especially in sexual exploitation. Something else we should be more aware of is that a lot of extremely cheap stuff, like clothes, are often made by people who are casualties from human trafficking.
I found it very impressive that in the guest lecture Malaike, a survivor of human trafficking, talked a bit about her experience and what she is doing now. I found it impressive how she founded Footprint to freedom and is trying to make a difference in the world.
It think it is important that more people will become aware of human trafficking, and governments should do more about the fight against it.
